My appreciation for the past echoes in the materials I use in my work. Although there is no limit to the materials I will find or incorporate into each piece, I gravitate towards antique lace, old advertising merchandise, and illustrations found in old children’s books. I also have a creative tendency to include text into my work and enjoy an occasional “play on words”. After a work is implemented, then completed, I like to stand back and observe the relationship that the various materials used take on in each piece. I hope to give the dusty and forgotten a fresh avenue to tell their story through art. I am a lover of composition and color. I am a lover of the old. I am a vintage princess.
Ever since I was a little girl, I have been fascinated with all things old. I remember my mother dragging me along to various antiques malls and boutiques hoping I wouldn’t make a fuss during our expeditions. She knows now that I secretly enjoyed our outings. I especially remember the smell that lingered throughout the big buildings that housed massive collections of antique dressers, old dolls, vintage linens, and so much more. I still have the antique ballet costume by mother gave me for my birthday; I must have been seven or eight. It was a pink silk gown with a floral chiffon skirt that tied around the waist with green velvet ribbon. It fit me perfectly. I was a vintage princess.
